Have you seen Fiverr gig collections?

This is actually a pretty clever idea.

You see, the problem is that Fiverr has gotten huge. As in “three quarters of a million gigs” huge. It’s simply not possible to search effectively the old way.

So some bright lad or lassie came up with the idea of letting users group similar gigs together. And the Fiverr Editors themselves did a whole bunch. (Personally, we think they had software do the choosing, but whatever.) We’ve been hand-selecting gigs here at Fiverrlicious and our sister blog Best of Fiverr practically since the beginning.

Each gig now has a Collect button you can click to add it to a collection of your own, or you can follow someone else’s collection. Fiverr search has been modified so it now looks inside collections if you’re seeking a particular service.

Smart sellers will make collections of their own, include their best gigs with those of other people and promote the collection via social media. Collections are rated and displayed by popularity, so the more views you can get for your collection, the better.

Somewhere deep in the heart of Vancouver B.C. lurks a creative kinda guy who has harnessed the magical powers of musical theatre to bring joy to Fiverr users.

That guy is Colin, aka abcdawg. You can call him Dawg.

Dawg came to Fiverr by way of Regretsy.com, having seen the Dancing Dror uproar over there and realizing here was a way to bank a little extra change. He’s got 75 gigs under his musical comedy belt to date and more in the queue. We knew that when you do custom work for people, you run into some funny stories. Here’s one: He is now the personal songwriter for a 2 year old girl, who just adores his videos. Wait, is that a Nickelodeon talent scout on the phone?

By far Dawg’s most difficult gig has been the Hot Dog Song. Sing along, if you can.

Posh pashmina scarf from Thailand for $5

Our personal trainer at the gym is a pink fiend and when we ran across this gig offering to ship a handmade silk pashmina scarf from Thailand, we were intrigued. (Unfortunately the gig has since gotten lost in the vast Fiverr closet but you can see it here.)

The scarf is shimmery, unbelievably light and airy, with slubbed threads and an open weave. There’s sparse fringe on both ends. The whole shebang measures 60 inches long by 13 inches wide. The pink we selected is actually more like mauve, so we won’t be gifting it after all. Instead it’ll go into our wardrobe to await a wedding or other special occasion.

Color choices are: very dark purple, light blue, sea blue, mid blue, navy blue, yellow, orange, violet, purple, silver, red, murky green, light green, forest green, mid pink, light pink, golden brown, creamy white, black and bright turquoise.

If you could have a button that said anything you wanted, what would that be?

Instead of classics like “Dyslexics are teeple poo” or “Have a pheasant plucking day”, we were seized with an urge to have our Best of Fiverr logo on some pinback buttons. (Boring, we know.) On Fiverr, calocedrus is the Button King. He’s been making buttons for all reasons and seasons for years.

He took our small graphic, warned us it would be somewhat pixellated since it was a low resolution pic, and added a URL across the bottom. We show one but you get four identical buttons.

Add a two-spot for shipping and you’re set. We assume you can get a bulk price if you need ‘em for trade show gimmes or such.

Color photo transformed into pop art cartoon for $5

It’s a delicate and subtle effect, rendered by our friend Clyde (mousetivity), suitable for a variety of uses. And of the three types of effects Clyde does — pop art, comic book and posterization — we like this one the best. Though if you want your own personal “Oh no! I forgot to have children!” comic, he can do that too.

When you think of Asbury Park, New Jersey, what do you think of? Snooki? Bruce Springsteen. OK, you pass.

Well, that’s not all there is to the home of Jersey Shore, you know. There’s a whole lot more.

For instance, did you know Danny DeVito grew up there? How about Bud Abbott of Abbott and Costello fame? He was born in Asbury Park. Then there’s famous fortuneteller Madam Marie. She lived there for a time. And Stephen Crane, author of “The Red Badge of Courage” – yep, he’s no outsider either.

Asbury Park has for a long time been a cultural hot spot. But you knew that, didn’t you?

And for you baseball fans, well, you might be interested to know there’s a large switch hitting community as well. OK, so maybe they’re total lefties. Whaddo I know? Fact is, you can take a Road Trip to Asbury Park and join the Sand Blast all in one weekend. Do like the natives do and take Pride in thyself, home boy.

Anyhow, Asbury Park, New Jersey’s one cool gig. And you can learn all about it from itsjessicann, who wants to be your online tour guide to one of the most famous towns on the East Coast. Asbury Park is in the midst of a cultural, economic and political makeover that some people are calling a revival, probably because they’ve got that old-time religion. Some folks are saying they’re going about rehabilitating the old Convention Hall. Good thing. The old sot needs it.

What a lovely take on portraiture.

Indonesian Fiverr seller desainoke makes by a personalized greeting card in that she takes a photo of you, renders it into an artistic drawing, then adds any message you like so that the finished product is in a postcard format.

Our portrait postcard was in extremely high resolution (3508×2480 pixels), which is useful is you want to make a poster or other large object out of it. You could actually have it printed as a postcard if that’s your desire but you’ll have to find a printer.

Found on Fiverr: Vintage spoons repurposed as garden markers for $5

What a sweetly nostalgic idea.

Elise, aka goozeberryhill, will create a garden marker out of a vintage spoon stamped with the word or short phrase of your choice. The examples she used were Herb Garden, Veg Patch and Salad Garden, but you can do something more personalized. We’re thinking you could even write something like Get Well or I Love You and tuck it into a flowering plant.

We asked her how she came up with this genius gig and here’s what she said:

I took a silversmithing course at my local college where we paid a small fortune for little bits of silver to stamp with letter punches so to save money I started to use old spoons and cutlery to practice on. This led onto making Birthday, Christmas and any other occasion gifts for Friends and family on Antique and vintage spoons.

The idea for the garden markers came from seeing my Dad putting little wooden sticks in to his garden during planting season and the writing inevitably getting washed off in the rain. So for his Birthday last year I gave him a set of garden markers with the names of all the seeds he plants every year.
